Common questions

A clear next step.

Which videos can I convert?

Choose a self-contained QuickTime MOV video; external media references are not supported. Renaming an MP4 or another file to .mov does not change its container. The Photos picker can also show other video formats; unsupported selections receive an error. Support depends on the video codecs available in your operating system. Protected, damaged and audio-only files are not supported. A batch holds up to 10 videos: 1 GiB per file and 2 GiB total. Each video must be no longer than six hours, with no side above 8192 pixels and no frame above 40 megapixels.

Where is my converted video?

It is in your chosen Photos library, Files destination or Mac folder. MP4 outputs use .mp4. Use Show in Finder on Mac to locate a saved result. Existing files are not overwritten.

Why does Photos need permission?

The app uses the system picker without broad photo-library read access. Save to Photos requests add-only permission to create videos. Decline and use Files instead, or review the permission in Settings.

Does conversion change quality?

The app creates a standard MP4 for sharing. Video re-encoding can change quality and metadata; HDR, transparency, spatial information and specialist MOV tracks may not be preserved. Keep your original for editing or archival use. A smaller file is not guaranteed.

Does it work offline?

Conversion happens on your device without a conversion server. iCloud or another file provider may first need to download an original. Saving to cloud storage or explicitly sharing can require internet access.

What happens if I cancel?

Cancelling conversion stops the export. Cancelling a destination discards the new unsaved conversion; previously saved files remain. Temporary cleanup is best effort, not guaranteed secure deletion.

Why did conversion fail?

Check that the original opens, has finished downloading and is supported. Keep free storage for a local input copy and output. Try a shorter video if resources are limited. Unsupported or damaged files need a different valid original, not repeated retries.
